Director's Message

March 20, 2023

The Code Enforcement Department focuses on quality-of-life issues impacting our neighborhoods.  We are a complaint-based organization that prides ourselves on quick response and timely resolution of nuisance issues impacting our communities.

Code Enforcement holds property owners responsible for the care and condition of their land.  Unpermitted structures, excessive outside storage, accumulated rubbish, inoperative vehicles, and homeless camps on private property can all be addressed by our Neighborhood Enforcement Teams (NET) from any of our six offices:  Downtown Riverside, Cabazon, Palm Desert, San Jacinto, Perris, and Lakeland Village.

Our Tire Team is responsible for compliance inspections of tire related businesses throughout the county.  They also work with landowners to secure clean-up funds and labor to remove illegally dumped tires and designate them to appropriate disposal or recycling outlets.

We have a separate team devoted solely to Cannabis related issues such as dispensary compliance and illegal cultivation.  Working in partnership with the Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s Office, the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office, and Fish & Wildlife our crew is constantly working to rid the communities we serve of illegal cannabis operations and the negative elements they attract.

Our Special Enforcement Team (SET) works a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.  Their primary focus includes loud parties, unpermitted Short-Term Rentals (STRs), illegal event venues (i.e.  weddings, rodeos, concerts, etc.), parking and light trespass.

Our 24-hour Call Center is monitored 7 days a week and allows the SET Team to respond afterhours while also addressing routine constituent complaints during normal business hours.

Our department is responsible to respond to complaints in 56 unincorporated communities from Green River to the Colorado River throughout a county the size of the state of New Jersey.  We strive daily to improve your quality of life while keeping your neighborhoods safe.

If you are experiencing trouble, contact us and let us help you.
